And then I was thrust into a world of scents and sounds. Apple pie, blueberry muffins, strawberry and cream ice cream, and the rich dark smell of chocolate cake. As I whirled around, taking in the aroma, I closed my eyes and began to hear. Sounds of whisks and beaters out back, the sound of chitchat and sipping of coffee, the clicks and clacks of distant keyboards underneath fingers. It felt good to be back. My Mumma's shop was my sanctuary; it was a place I could disappear to, knowing I would always be safe. Tears welled under my thick lashes, and I knew if I opened them, the tears would come tumbling down. So in a quick movement, I wiped under my upper cheeks and smiled bright as my eyes came fluttering open. I took one last deep breath, savouring the moment.
