A Coward’s Betrayal
They stood on the cliff by the beach where they had first declared their love for one another.
She stood with her back to the edge.
He stood facing her.
The wind undid strands of her hair, but she didn’t make an effort to hold them in place as they were pulled from her bun.
_“I trust you.”, _she said as the knife pointed at her throat.
His knife, she had given it to him back then out of _love._

He now pointed it at her out of _hate_.
He stepped closer, forcing her further towards the edge. A silent determination darkened his eyes, while hers were _blinded_ with trust.
_“I love you.”, _she said as the knife pressed to her throat.
He took another step forward, forcing her to stand right at the edge. A hint of regret now shimmered in the darkness of his pupil while hers kept their blind trust.
_“I’m sorry.”, _he said as he lowered the knife and took another step forward. His eyes now voided of hate and full of nostalgic regret, while hers lay forever empty at the bottom of the cliff.
As the blood he was too _cowardly_ to draw_ _dyed the sand red, he turned around in shame.
