POEM STARTER
Submitted by Karman
Write a poem about the protagonist getting something off of their chest.
Songbird
I use to rant,
each day so true.
Shouting to the world,
what I knew.
I was ignored,
my pain dismissed.
The hope of others caring
was amiss.
I quieted my voice,
became so fake.
A shell of the girl,
you chose to awake.
I continued to see,
each day the pain
of other girls- that felt the same.
My story - so common it was sick.
All of us,
our hearts grown thick.
Lips drawn tight-
no gasp could slip.
Not understanding,
forced censorship.
I chose to stop - let words flow true.
Letting the villain’s discomfort stew
I care no more,
voices need to be heard,
speak your truth - a true songbird
Maybe one day,
they’ll lose their grip
Allowing our truth to unzip.
This unknown
should stir some fear
because a victim’s voice
can be loud and clear.
