The Overbearing Girl

You tell me to show emotion—

so I bare it all, and I’m called too much.

You tell me to care more,

so I care too deeply, and I’m told to step back.

You tell me to speak up,

so I raise my voice,

and suddenly, I’m too loud,

asked to quiet down.

I scream, but it comes out a whisper.

I yell, but nothing escapes.

I scream so loud inside my chest,

yet no one comes.

No one saves the overdoing girl.

She doesn’t need saving—

so let her drown.

She is overbearing,

too much to hold, too much to love.

So you turn away,

pass her off,

say she isn’t made the right way.

Now, she doesn’t scream.

She doesn’t yell.

She just sits,

watching life slide past,

keeping people at arm’s length.

She will always be the overbearing girl—

the one too much, in all the wrong ways.

So she chooses silence.

But make no mistake—

inside her chest,

the scream still burns,

waiting for the day

it swallows the world whole.
