Stepping into the classroom on Valentine’s Day,

I chose to sit by my friend who had something to say.

We chatted while waiting for class to begin

When my crush, late, walked in

He looked to his normal seat next to me,

And looked disappointed when it was empty

Glancing around he finally looked my way

All I could muster was a flimsy, “Hey.”

His friend took my spot next to him

I wanted to explain myself, but couldn’t spare a min

Normal school day ended

My anxiety made my judgement convoluted

Needing clarity, I sat down

A deep breath, my heart going POUND POUND,

I shakily wrote him a text

“I need to share a secret I’ve kept.”

I stared with my eyes wet and hot

“What’s up?”

I reply: “I know I’m testing my luck,

But I have feeling for you.

I hope you do too?”
