Camp Vitos
Reyna walked along the dusty rubble of the old room. What once had been so vibrant with the children's laughter was now empty and quiet. She hadn't been there since she was twelve years old. nine years ago. Grant, Luisa, Mary.... Michael.
They were all grown up, just like her. She had to process everything. The end of the world almost nine years ago, and the family that took her in, made her their own. She couldn't say she had been exactly kind since she left. Of course, she had never meant to hurt any of them. She hadn't even seen them since she was twelve, but she knew they were still there, she knew her father- or who called himself her father, was trying to take over their land. She may have realized too late that what she had believed in was wrong, but what she had always known, or wanted to believe was real, was-
"So, what did you want to see me about?"
Michael. That young, dark curly-haired boy with the blue eyes that shown in the darkest of nights. She had missed his voice, and hearing it again, even so different as it was, made all those memories of them in that very room come flooding back. Memories she had desperately tried to hide away since she had first stepped foot on their territory.
She closed her eyes a moment, taking in a breath before turning around to see him.
He looked so much older. Sure, only twenty, they were both only just now grasping what it was to be an adult, or what Reyna assumed anyway. He studied her for a moment with those blue eyes. Those damned blue eyes. She quickly shook her head, closing her eyes to hide what might have been a blush. She never could handle herself around that boy.
"Right, I... I believe I requested Miss. Mary Fawkes? Is she not-" Reyna began, hoping, praying that Michael didn't recognize her, though her long red-brown hair didn't help her hide it well. Even with it pulled up in her hood, it was hard to hide it. Especially with a hood that refused to stay on her head. He always said he loved her hair. Though, that was twelve years ago.
"Of course, just go to the Fawkes Loyalty Cemetary near the Family Home Center and you'll find her." He spoke coldly, not faltering for even a moment. Reyna froze. Mama Fawkes was one of her fondest memories when she was there, she had no idea. She should have only been forty-five. Give or take.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, when did she pass?" She asked, a little too quickly and Michael scrunched his nose slightly, his arms still crossed over his chest. She didn't know how to take any of that. He looked so young, yet old at the same time, but he certainly wasn't old enough to run an entire community. However, when he didn't answer she tried to tune out her thoughts of him. "What about Mr. Dezmond, is he-"
"I'll save you the words. Also there. Can we get to why you decided to trespass, or should you be escorted off?" He asked, finally removing his arms from his chest. Reyna straightened up, not sure how to communicate with him. He was always a little uptight, but about which book he wanted to read next, not all the time. However, she had to remember she had been gone for twelve years. She would have to repeat that a few times in her head.
"Right, yes, I uh..." She began to explain, slowly trying to move around the rubble, tripping slightly. She regained her composure to see Michael studying her in annoyance. He had really not grown up kind. Good looking, but not kind. Yet, she had to act as if she didn't know him at all, "You are... Michael? or are you Grant?"
Michael and Grant were twins, and though they were fraternal, they looked an awful lot like each other, except that Grant was more... rude in a sense. From what Reyna picked up on anyway. Michael nodded for a moment, removing something from his pocket. She saw it was a walkie-talkie, and studied it suspiciously before he placed it back on his waist. She immediately looked away as his eyes fell back to her.
"Michael Farlin-Fawkes. Now, again, why are you here?" He asked, studying her once more and she nodded her head, keeping her eyes on him. He hadn't even asked her name. She didn't know if that was good or bad. As she studied him, she realized she didn't come here to gawk, she came here to warn them, which was what she intended to do, even though she had quite a hard time keeping her eyes off him. Why did she admire his eyes so much?
"You... you're in danger." She explained, spitting it out quickly. Might not have been what she was looking for, but it was a start in her direction. "Camp Vitos, They plan to wipe you out and take your land."
"Camp Vitos? Never heard of them." Michael exclaimed, crossing his arms once more. She nodded slightly, even though that wasn't true. Luisa had just told her before that she was worried that Reyna was part of Camp Vitos, which of course she had lied about. She didn't want her to worry before she could warn who was in charge. Which turns out, was Michael.
"Okay, well.. they have certainly heard of you, and they plan to raid your Colony to get access to your water supply. It's one of the few still untainted by the... virus." She told him slowly. The virus was what took most people still left, and it was becoming vital to find a supply that wasn't already contaminated. Especially with the equipment not being completely reliable. He looked down for a moment, and for a second she wasn't sure if he was worried or annoyed. "They got tired of... decontamination."
"Okay, thanks for the warning, anything else?" He asked her as there was a static sound from the walkie-talkie. She shook her head. He nodded at her with the look she had seen him give her that whole conversation, and she couldn't pinpoint what it was. Maybe he recognized her? Absurd. She only recognized him because of the fact she used to have a massive crush on him. Well, maybe not massive, considering she didn't even realize it until she had left, however it had been there.
"Wait, actually." She started, stopping him as he had turned to leave. He sighed, looking back over to her, and she smiled kindly "Maybe... I could, with your permission of course, stay here tonight. It's getting dark out and I don't exactly have a colony to go back to anymore."
Her light laughter didn't seem to faze him and he straightened up. However the next words he said made her freeze in her spot, and not in a good way. Though it did make her understand why he had been so uptight since they started talking.
"Sorry, we don't give second chances." He smiled with a mocking look on his face, shrugging lightly. She widened her eyes slightly as he left the room. Maybe though, she shouldn't have done what she did next, which was chase after him.
"Michael, wait!"
