POEM STARTER
Write a poem that centers around the question: Why do some seek out blood and others seek to heal?
Thought I Knew You
From classmates to strangers
From best friends to strangers
From sisters to strangers
Strangers who knew too much
Strangers who couldn’t look the other in the eye
Strangers who argued just a bit too far that one time
Strangers who decided it was better to say goodbye
I thought I knew you
But I was proved wrong
Because while I was getting better
You fixated on deepening the wounds
Thought you were the big one
Telling me to leave
Self respect so I did
Yet you reappeared
Twisting the knife
Little did you know
I pulled it out long ago
Try to hurt me
Try to bring me down
You forget, if I wanted to, our roles could reverse within seconds
But I
I remember a time when we weren’t strangers
