Sometimes I find myself surrounded by the darkness.

Swallowed by its cold emptiness.

Numbed by its embraced.

Until I no longer feel anything.

I don’t seek it, but it finds me.

A reminder that I’m trapped.

Enslaved to the power it holds over me.

The darkness comforts me with loneliness.

It wraps me in hopelessness without a way to escape.

I’m chained to it.

When freedom comes I choose the chains.

A cycle of hopelessness.

A pattern I can’t break.

I seek the darkness while trying to find the light.

Because in that darkness is where it shines the brightest.

Hope like a star shines in the darkness’s sky.

A reminder that I am not alone.

Not forgotten.

A reminder of the love that light holds for me.

It’s light shines on my chains.

They melt in its warmth.

In the darkness, freedom claims me.

In the darkness, Light’s goodness becomes known.

To know my darkness is to better understand his light.
