POEM STARTER
"Everything is just as it is meant to be."
Use this as the closing line of a poem in any style.
Ticket To Anywhere
I board the train to somewhere,
Destination is unknown.
In he walks - big hat on hair,
I look up from my phone.
This cowboy far from his home,
In the wild Wild West.
A stranger to this biome,
My heart flutters in my chest.
He takes a seat across from me,
Pulls out a deck of cards.
Shuffles them quite comfortably,
Then cuts the pile in half.
“Want to gamble?” he says slyly,
“Do you want to play a game?”
“But if I win,” he continues wryly,
“I get your number and your name.”
Blood rushes to my cheeks
And I give the man a nod.
He deals the cards and then he peeks,
Acting like he’s this game’s God.
“Flip them,” he says with a smile.
I do as he commands.
“I win,” he grins all the while -
I never learned the hands.
I don’t challenge the decision,
The outcome is fine with me,
My fate needs no revision,
Everything is just as it is meant to be.
