POEM STARTER

Write a descriptive poem which portrays a busy city.

You could use metaphors, imagery, and appeal to the senses, to really capture the feel of a city.

Red And Gold

Steel towers stretch into the pale sky,

their glass faces fractured with a thousand suns.

Engines hum in unbroken chorus,

a tide of wheels rushing over asphalt veins.

Neon signs flicker like restless dreams,

painting sidewalks in red and gold,

while voices spill from every corner—

laughter, bargains, arguments woven tight.

The air is thick with roasted chestnuts,

smoke curling between echoes of footsteps,

horns answering horns in impatient rhythm,

as if the streets themselves beat like drums.

Yet in a narrow alley, quiet blooms—

a single cat perched on a window ledge,

eyes reflecting the city’s chaos,

calm in the storm of endless motion.
