The Lemon Filled House
The smell of lemons
was once a comforting thought
He clung to it, was comforted in it
For this once was his place, was his spot
It once was reminders
of a shining sun and blue lake
Of launching paper boats
and then watching them brake
It once meant laughter
and warmth and joy
of parents who loved him
of him being a carefree little boy
But now these lemons
bring back dark shattered days
of yelling and screaming
that broke this blissful haze
Of being put in car without a choice
Of not getting to say goobye
and of leaving that lemon filled house
and being confused why dad stayed behind
His mom told him, it’s okay
things would get better
but as she drove away
He felt his face getting wetter
And his new house was run down
and his dreams gave him scares
For now his life had no light or joy
or lemon scented air
Of his mom growing colder
Her working every day
getting more distant
of her hair turning gray
So now he’s all alone
And slipping past are some tears
dreaming of a lemon filled life
that didn’t end with affairs
