POEM STARTER

Submitted by Robin Marlowe

Write a poem about unseasonable weather. e.g. A warm day in the winter, or snow in the summer.

Unseasoned Love

Alternative Title: A Winter's Farewell in Summer's Arms

The winter sun shone warm and bright,

A golden dream in frozen light.

And there we stood, our hands entwined,

As love defied the fates unkind.

The frost had melted from the ground,

Yet in your eyes, my world was found.

No season’s shift, no time’s embrace,

Could steal the warmth of love’s sweet grace.

Yet summer came with bitter air,

A chill that whispered soft despair.

The roses bloomed, but cold winds blew,

And sorrow crept where love once grew.

A single flake upon my cheek,

Though summer’s voice was bold and sleek.

A warning fell from skies so grey,

That love, like time, would drift away.

You spoke with words both soft and true,

A farewell kissed in morning’s hue.

Though sun still shone upon the land,

You slipped so gently from my hand.

The winds had turned, the tides had changed,

And all we knew was rearranged.

Yet still I stand where warmth once lay,

A heart unseasoned, lost in fray.

The world forgets, the flowers grow,

Yet summer still brings winter’s woe.

The air is wrong, the sky is strange,

For love is lost, yet stars remain.

The seasons twist, the winds deceive,

Yet in my chest, love dares to grieve.

For though you go, though time is cruel,

My heart remembers—I am you.

So let the snow kiss summer’s land,

And let the sun take winter’s hand.

For love will rise, though time may stray,

And loss may walk through warmest day.
