Hug Me
Playing with your hair,
Lying in your bed,
I just wanna be your girl,
You just wanna be my friend,
Watching the show you told me about,
Your watching the screen,
I’m watching your mouth,
Someone I thought I could trust,
Sold me out and left me for dust,
Now you don’t hug me the same,
I’m still the same me,
Nothings changed,
I wish I could go back,
To when you said my name,
With a smile on your face
But now it just sounds tired,
Like a line in a play,
You’re here in the room,
But you feel far away.
I still wear your hoodie,
Though it smells like the past,
Trying to hold on
To something that never lasts.
I bite back the words,
Like “Do you still care?”
But the silence between us
Says more than a stare.
You don’t touch my hand
When we’re crossing the street,
Like love’s a routine
That we’re too worn to keep.
