The Lost Letter
It had been twenty years after the second World War.
I met my first love, Philip. We were both young and in love. I was 21, he was 25. I was pregnant with our child, who I named Alice. Now I am 63, and without him.
He was a soldier in ww1. He was the most brilliant soldier there ever was. Not to mention the most charming sweetest man i’d ever met.
There is not a day that goes by where I don’t think of him.
I was prepping my morning tea and I heard a knock.
It was my daughter.
“Hi mum.” My daughter greeted me.
“Alice! Hello, dear.” I said and hugged her.
We sat on the sofa and turned on the television.
I turned my gaze and saw a picture of my Philip and his purple heart that was later given to us.
As I was falling asleep, my daughter woke me and gave me a letter. It looked worn, old and a bit tattered.
“There was a man, he was dressed in a uniform and urged me to give this to you. He said, he found this letter that had been addressed to you a long time ago. He said that they recently found it.” Said, Alice.
I grabbed the letter gently, it was addressed to me, from Philip.
“My dearest Margaret. The days are cold and empty without you. I hope to return early, and soon build the life we’ve always dreamed of together. We’ll grow old together and watch our grandchildren dance in the rain and collect rose petals to decorate the table. My dearest Margaret, I shall return soon.”
