POEM STARTER
Write a blank verse poem on a topic that's important to you.
Blank verse poetry doesn't rhyme, but has a very strict structure which builds a melody through rhythm. (One way to create this is to structure each line with the same amount of syllables, and the same syllabic stresses, like you might if you were writing the verses of a song.)
The Gaza Strip
Why does the whole world?
Just stand and watch
As millions of people get murdered
Women killed mercilessly
Why does no one do anything?
All they say is empty words
Full of faked sadness and regret
Pretending that they care
Why does the war go on and on?
Starving children are forced to eat grass
Birds snack on the remains of bodies
Littering the ground like trash floats in the ocean
Why are children getting arrested for playing?
Is that a crime now, too?
They are torn apart from their families
Many relatives and friends they will never see again
Stop this madness
Stop this tyrany
I’d rather kill myself
Then live in this hellish world
