WRITING OBSTACLE

Write the climax of a murder mystery story without any reference to the victim or the crime itself.

The climax can be defined as the point in the story with the highest tension and stakes. How will you drive the story without mentioning the crime?

Boiling Point

My hands balled into in fists, I walk right into a big mansion where all the culprits lie—and where I’d been staying.

“What were you doing last week?” I raise my voice at this girl named Sasha.

“Why?” She asked innocently.

“I’m not buying your innocent act, you know something and you’re not telling me!” I spit out, then cringe, embarrassed at how bitter I sound.

Taking a deep breath, someone else walks in, “What’s going on?”

“She knows something and won’t tell me,” I point to Sasha.

Sasha looks at the guy, trying to signal with her eyes for help.

“Did you just see that?”

“See what?” The man said, shrugging.

Anger boiled in me, and I speedily walked to my room. Everyone seemed to be in cahoots, _except_ me.

I had to run—so I did—I took my jacket and went for a run. Adrenaline is pumping throughout my body, and I’m running when something hits my shoe, A _key? _Could this be to the mysterious outback house? I smelled burnt blood, What was going on…. Something seemed off.
