Evan emerges from the front door. He immediately raises his hands to his face, shielding himself from the sun. He hasn’t felt it all summer long. It’s hot - and he forgot how hot it could get in his town. He thinks of baked cookies, dinners from his mother, steamy showers that he had to lower the temperature of before he hopped in. That’s how he feels now: he doesn’t want to be the cookies, the dinners, the shower water. He wants to be Evan again, cool in his home, not being forced to go outside. Yet he takes a few steps forward, and a few more … and before he knows it his toes touch grass and he finds it feels good again. He lowers his hand from his face and looks up at the sun like an old friend.
