WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a fast-paced scene that takes place during a rush hour.
There doesn't need to be a dramatic plot, but think about how you can create and maintain a busy and rushed feeling in a short story.
Watch Your Speed!
Bex practically leaped into the car, she turned on the engine, slammed her foot on the acceleration and flew out of her drive way with reckless abandon, she’d hoped to avoid the traffic, but it was as far as the eye could see.
Sitting restlessly in her seat, she tapped her manicured fingers against the fluffy pink steering wheel as the matching dice rocked violently back and forth above.
“Come on, come on!” She muttered to herself as the cars finally began their slow journey forward.
She looked to the lane next to her and saw a gap, she pulled into it with a chorus of horns blaring at her from behind.
She sped forward until another car blocked her way.
She rolled down the window, stuck her head out and yelled at the driver in front of her to get a move on, all whilst smashing her hand against her horn.
When the traffic again began to move she floored it, causing the dice to fly from the roof and whack her in the face.
This temporarily surprised her, but it was enough to make her swerve into the next lane, colliding with another car.
The airbag erupted into her face, but although shocked, she was completely uninjured.
Bex clambered out of her seat to assess the damage and upon seeing a huge dent she cursed aloud, ran fingers through her frazzled hair as she stepped back, her heel snagging on a piece of gravel and causing her to fall backwards. As she climbed to her feet she laughed at the situation only to hear the sound of a speeding car coming towards her at full force.
