Why do roses have thorns?
Write a poem that discusses this question.
Every Thorn Is a Warning You Ignored
When you touch a rose's stem, you get poked.
You can't touch their exterior without getting hurt.
So why do you keep going back
when you know you're going to get hurt?
Roses are the most beautiful disaster you could ever touch.
They have a seeping, bloody red tint to their colorโ
blood that spills and spreads.
Blood that says, I warned you.
Roses protect themselves.
From anyone who tries to grab them.
Because they knowโ
you wonโt be gentle.
Youโll be rough. Mean. Careless.
So they build their walls.
They grow thorns.
They guard their softness with pain.
People donโt know how to keep their hands to themselves.
They always reach for what isnโt theirs.
They ruin beautiful things with their filthy hands.
They touch what they were never invited to hold.
And then act surprised
when it cuts them back.
Humans donโt know how to keep their hands to themselves.
Thatโs why roses bleed, weep, and wail.
They don't want to be held
They don't want to be touched
No one knows the word No
