My cat can fly
The forest is silent tonight; the only sound affecting my ears is the rustling of the trees against the wind. I have lived here long enough to realize that it is mostly quiet; no normal human dares to travel down such a disturbing trail that ends up in the middle of nowhere.
Inexplicably, I catch a blaring knock on the door. A scoff escapes me before I force myself to greet the irregular guest on my doorstep. My head meets the doorknob, and a meow is heard behind me.
"Hush up! This could be our dessert if we do this right!" My sound hissed at Otto, hiding behind the abnormally large closet I keep. I narrow my eyes at him before turning fully to the door.
A creak enters my noiseless home, which is a sound I haven't heard in years. I cough harshly, covering it with my wrinkled hand. Steadily, I glance at the human in front of me, pale and needy. He's tall, something you don't see often in this area of work.
"I deeply apologize to disturb you, madam. There's a problem, and I'm hoping that you have a remedy." The boy huffed out suddenly. His eyes meet mine, his are sorrowful and filled with fear. Emotion has never been my strong suit, so I could always be wrong.
The giant hides his hands behind his back, trying to conceal his shaky body. "Is it possible to stay with you for the night? I work with carpenters, and sadly, I got lost in the forest. Please, ma'am, help me. I'll do anything, I can freeze out here." He pleaded desperately, the water welling up in his vast eyes.
"Aren't you too young to be hanging out with a hag?" The joke didn't come off as funny because the only reaction that peeped out of him was him pressing his lips together. I groaned in response to the lack of humor; the generations below me have lost it all.
Absurdly, I take three steps back into my witch house and raise my dry left hand. With a sudden motion of pushing two fingers back, I signaled the huge boy to follow inside. A gasp emerged from him, and I didn't give another word to the boy.
It took a few minutes for him to get settled, and for me to find options for what he can rest on tonight. We told each other our names and then went off towards my giant closet. I discovered two empty blankets and placed them onto the cold floor of my abode. My grey hairs blocked my vision to see what he was doing, but he seemed to be in a corner.
"Eden! Why can your cat fly?" Luis stammered. Harshly, I pushed my hair out of my face to see Otto flying with his dragon wings open wide. His eyes are a haunting dark green with black fur to cover him in the piercing winters.
"Oh, don't worry about that. He does that every time he sees his dinner."
