WRITING OBSTACLE
If there was an 8th deadly sin, what would it be?
Write a descriptive paragraph about this sin.
Ignorance
Ignorance /ˈɪɡn(ə)rəns/
>noun
>lack of knowledge or information.
It's one thing to be unaware, but it's another to stay misinformed; clinging to falsehoods when the truth is just within reach. As the saying goes, 'ignorance is bliss'- such a fancy wordplay, when in truth, it is a guise for choosing comfort over confrontation.
Is it not unjust?
Is it not-dare I say-cruel?
Cruel to this world... or even to oneself?
Ignorance can be a shield; when we look away, we gain momentary peace of mind.
It can also be a weapon- causing harm to others by doing nothing at all.
When wielded as such, ignorance makes cowards of us. Ears blocked, eyes shut, tongues tied. They will say they knew nothing. They'll look away- they always do.
To close your eyes to truth is not innocence- it's complicity.
Ignorance can be forgiven.
Willful ignorance?
That is a deadly sin.
