POEM STARTER
Write a poem about the heart, focusing on its physicality and actions.
Avoid the kind of metaphors and language which are normally associated with the heart's emotional connection.
Anatomy Of A Heart
We live in a time
where we’ve been taught
that the heart pumps
blood through chambers
a valve is like a door of which
you could step through to
get to the next room.
Up, down, side to side,
that’s how many visualize
the cardiac function.
We live in a time
where we’ve also learned
that the cardiac muscle
coils around itself,
and the blood flows
counterclockwise through
a dynamic vortex.
Swish, twist, relax, contract,
the heart is the spiritual center,
we’ve already agreed.
So how is it so hard
for people to rectify
two very different
images in their minds?
