WRITING OBSTACLE

Inspired by Samantha Roberts

Write a descriptive scene about a character feeling the sunlight on their face for the first time in a very long while.

Try to use as many senses as you can to capture this moment.

My capturer has left me alone in a dark , cold, damp basement. I have been gone for almost 5 years ,but everyday and every night I have been planning my escape. After being kept underground for half a decade I was ready to escape. Today was the day to escape Jim had gone out on a grocery run. He had become so comfortable with that he just let me roam around the basement. “ If you’re not here when I get back then you’ll be in huge trouble do you think understand me!” He yelled from the top of the staircase. I nodded vigorously as fear gripped me of what he might do to me, but I just had to get out of here. As soon as I heard his car drive away I waited about five minutes before going through with my plan. I started by grabbing a hammer from the tool box and used it to break the window in the basement. It was barely big enough for me to fit through I squirmed and squirmed through the small opening. That’s when I felt it a sudden rush of light spilled over my face and a cool breeze brushed through my hair. And the air the smell so fresh and light I have almost forgotten what this felt like. “ Birds!!” I exclaimed jumping up and down so happy to hear them singing to the beat of the breeze riffing the leaves. That’s when I remembered I had to get somewhere for help. I ran door to door asking for help hopelessly , but nobody seemed to be home. That’s when an exhausted young mother opened her door I quickly explained who I was and she looked scared and nervous. The police showed up and were surprised to see me , but they took me away to the station for my statement.
