POEM STARTER
Submitted by Robin Marlowe
Write a poem about unseasonable weather. e.g. A warm day in the winter, or snow in the summer.
Summer Lies
All my life
I’ve been looking for an answer
In a world
That only lies and fakes the day.
In this dark, snowy summer
I really need an answer.
She lies and lies and lies.
You lie and lie and lie.
They lie and lie and lie
To my face
In the dark.
You close your eyes.
And I scream and scream to open them.
You say I lie
Inside this snowy time.
The summer wind
Is blowing ice and hail.
These darkened times
Are killing me inside.
The way you buy their lies
Makes it hard to hide the dim light.
All my life
I’ve been looking for an answer
In a world
That only lies and fakes the day.
In this dark, snowy summer
I really need an answer
From someone who claims they know the way.
Inside this misery.
Inside this heartbreak scene.
Inside this blizzard.
Wild eyes are searching
Searching for the easy way out.
And they lie and lie and lie.
To your face as day cries.
They lie and lie and lie.
To find an escape from this summer life.
And I need you.
To look past the day.
Into the whirling winds of trickery.
Into the night.
Where cracks erupt with steam,
From broken answers
That were never truly seen.
