POEM STARTER
Awakening
Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.
Love’s Wind Down
I can now remember when
my heart began to love again
Like a garden, lush with flowers,
I recall those heavenly, joyful hours.
Yes, it was late that jeweled July
that we found love again, you and I.
Now together, at last we are one —
A greater union? There isn’t one!
But sadly it was not always this way.
We had to fight for this flourishing day.
We had to lie to find our final peace.
We had to die to break a painful lease.
In life, we grew jealous, lustful and lost
each other; cursed, our furies crossed.
We cut each other down with lovers hate
and took each others lives. Such tragic fate!
From our earthly bodies we were torn, broken -
Our hearts were shattered, shamed.
Down our souls went - cleansed, harshly awoken -
But our love was still reclaimed.
For some souls, heaven is much like hell.
Love will find a doorway, a window, a bottomless well.
