Rain in the Gardens

I’m in the palace gardens of Katharos.

It feels weird — feeling safe. It’s a funny feeling. I had spent my whole life running and running with no end. But now it has come to an end. I’m at peace. But I am alone.

Sure, I have Anastasia and Eiran but I miss my family. Kafsi, Naja, Niko, my father and everyone else in the rebellion. I grew up with them.

A part of me misses Alric too. He should be the enemy, the one man I hate the most but I don’t. I don’t hate him. I don’t think I ever could.

It’s raining. It has been for the past half hour I’ve been out here. I forgot that it was raining. The sound soothes me. I shut my eyes and just breathe.

In.

And out.

In.

And out.

My eyes fly open.

I hear a noise. I look around and then I see her — in the puddle on the ground.

I must be hallucinating.

I knew going three weeks with little to no food would affect me but it’s been three days since I arrived to Katharos, I thought I would be fine now.

The girl looks like me. Just more… fancier. Like royalty.

"Clementine Adolt, can you hear me?"

"Uh… yeah?"

"King Matako of Pryla is trying to break open the portal connections between your world and every other world in the universe, you must stop-"

She vanishes.

I shut my eyes again and rub them. "Bro."
