At an Impasse

Stones do not give

To go against the ground

Roots rebel

Where silence dwells

Under stone and dirt

The dirt cries pain

Shifting aches

Earthen quakes

Her foundation shakes

But no sound

The stones mute

though the cries carry on.

Stones do not give.

Roots seek life continued

But mercy sought

Is not mercy given

An impasse imposed

A re-route

A choice

To go against the ground

Or to find a way around.

The stones do not give.
