STORY STARTER

I just wanted to go for a normal walk…

As We Near The End

I was talking to my mother about my wedding arrangement with Carlos. She kept yelling at me to not marrry him but I didn’t listen because he is the love of my life, well, that’s what I thought.

“Carlos! I’m home!” I yelled, setting my purse and coat down.

“How much did you get done?”

“Not much. Mama didn’t want to help me with something she didn’t support. You would think that your own mother supports your marriage but not this one.” I said with a sigh.

“That must be pretty hard for you.” Carlos said, putting his arm around my shoulder.

“Surprisingly, no. It isn’t as hard as I thought. Probably because I know she’ll come around.”

Carlos pulled me down to the couch and I scrunched into his arms. “Why does she not support our love?”

“I don’t know! All she ever says is to just not marry you and that you are bad!”

“Well you know me best.”

“I guess I do.”

Carlos’s face brightened as he exclaimed, “How about we go on a walk! That’ll cheer you up.”

“It’s 40 degrees outside!”

“What’s a little cold when we can come back and have a fire with cocoa.”

“Yay! Ok I’ll grab my coat.”

As we walked down the park, I shivered but I didn’t have to worry because every time I did, Carlos pulled me closer. He is very strong and he may not have noticed that he was pulling me a bit hard so I just go with it.

As we near the end, he grabs me and pulls me off the trail. I am like “What the heck?!” He pushes me down a hill and I go tumbling down. Just as I try to get up, I see him standing right in front of me. This time was fifferent though.

His eyes were filled with ink. He mouth, red ink? Maybe, blood? He comes up to me and grabs my collar just to say, “You were worth the wait.” I just sit there as he flies off.

What was that. I trembled at how scary he was. That was not the man I said yes to. That was a demon.

This day was so scary. I realized that when I got home, our—my home. My mother was right. This was not normal. My mother told me later that day that he was a demon’s decent and all demons needed a spouse or else they would be executed. It sounded very stupid-silly to me but I knew she was right. But then she said something spine-tingling.

“They needed a demon spouse.”

Was I a demon decent?

My mother’s eyes grew to ink and her mouth smiled as she dissapeared from the room.

I was a demon decent of my mother’s.
