POEM STARTER

Write an Epode based on any theme you like.

An Epode is a style of poetry where each verse is two lines which differ in meter and structure, but the second line is always shorter than the first.

A Wave

The sparkling waves surf the ocean,

Its bright blue surface in constant motion.

A gentle touch as it caresses the sand,

Pulling it close with an outstretched hand.

A shimmer of light—sharp and bright—

Reflects off foam, a gleam of white.

A colorful blend swims within,

Creatures of scale, of fin, of skin.

Blue, yellow, green—

All that can be seen.

Then—red.

Leaving many dead.

Killing those who run,

Like the pull of a loaded gun.

Water crashes into skulls,

Smashes, breaks, cuts, then dulls.

Lightness turns to dark,

Daylight swallowed by the stark.
