A Ruby Necklace

Malinda found herself on the roof. She didn't remember coming here, and yet here she was as she stared at the cityscape that lay before her.

Her legs were dangling over the edge as she sat on the bench that she had built with her brother long before he had betrayed her and her country. She had held back so many words when he got caught betraying everyone. The words burned her throat now like bile as she thought of them.

There were a million things she could have done, a million things she could have shouted, screamed as he was being hung, and yet, instead she chose silence. That silence felt deafening now as she heard thunder in the distance. She looked up from the long fall below and stared up at the dark, gloomy storm clouds that were slowly rolling into the city. It looked like the weather reports had been accurate for once, and she smiled with her lips as the rain quickly began to pour down over the city and her.

The clouds hid the beautiful, pink strawberry moon from the sight of the city, and as they did, Malinda slowly took off the necklace she had been wearing. It was a beautiful necklace that had a gold chain and a ruby stone cut into a diamond shape as the main attraction.

"Brother, you gave me this." She scoffed, a sick, almost cruel smile crawling up onto her face as she bared her teeth. She held the necklace out over the ledge as the rain pounded on the ground near her. "You said it would protect me." Malinda snarled as she looked at the necklace with scorn, more specifically the ruby that had been cut into her favorite shape just for her many years ago.

"And yet it only brought me harm."

Thunder rumbled loudly in the sky again before lightning crackled and struck the ground behind her, as though telling her not to do what she was about to do. She was tired of being "protected" by some stupid necklace that her traitor of a brother had given her.

She her free hand through her now sopping wet, red hair as she let out a tired sigh. The woman was tired of being a pawn in a game she no longer wanted to play and hadn't known she was participating in until it had been too late.

She could hear someone banging on the metal double doors to get up to the roof in an attempt to reach her, but she ignored them.

She slowly let go of her precious necklace, watching as it quickly fell from the tall building she was sitting on that was over a hundred stories tall.

Her emerald green eyes shone with happiness as she let go of the piece of jewelry, finally erasing the last of the control her brother held on her, but that relief only lasted for a moment before she was struck by lightning just as the police managed to break through the metal doors and barged through them onto the roof only to find that the woman was no longer there.

Malinda's body had fallen off of the roof after the lightning had struck her, her corpse slowly falling to the earth and to the pedestrians below. The police could tell when the corpse of the woman hit the ground for they heard a petrified scream afterwards.

The Yang legacy had ended all because of a fox trying to get a bunny to trust him.
