POEM STARTER
Write a simplified sestina with any theme you think fits in the form.
A sestina has 6 stanzas of 6 lines, and the final word of each stanza should be important, and appear in the next stanza along. Begin with these basic rules, but you can also look up and try all the complex rules of a sestina!
Relapse
I know I’m invisible
It makes me feel safe
So when I disassociate
Nobody questions my insanity
When I drown
Every time I cry
And every time I cry
I’m glad I’m invisible
So that when I drown
Nobody worries if I’m safe
From my insanity
And I disassociate
Every time I disassociate
I know I’ll cry
I’ve reached the pinnacle of my insanity
And being invisible
is the only way I’ll be safe
And that makes me drown
Don’t watch me drown
I might do it again if I disassociate
I’m not safe
Oh god, I’m going to cry
But at least I’m invisible
So nobody will mind my insanity
_Please_ don’t mind my insanity
I promise not to drown
Just let me stay invisible
So I can disassociate
And I’ll be lonely so I’ll cry
But I promise I’m safe
I really am safe
From my insanity
And I don’t need to cry
Maybe I just need to come up for air so I don’t drown
And don’t suffocate enough to disassociate
But unfortunately I’m still invisible
I promise not to drown
And to not disassociate
Even if I am invisible
