POEM STARTER

Submitted by SmileyGuitar

Write a poem that starts in a cheerful, bright mood, but then reveals underlying anger or bitterness.

Sleep

If the happy thoughts inside my head

Danced away and never fled

Then what a delightful day I’ll spend

Laughing about till noon

If only night could be so nice

That I was free from this strangling vice

That keeps sleep far from my tired eyes

To fear it won’t come soon

Can sleep come free without distraction

Can night like day bring satisfaction

If my mind could show a little compassion

Maybe the night wouldn’t feel so doomed
