She could feel the blood drain from my face. It’s time. Kaylah had no idea what she was getting herald into when she signed the paper. But note that she realized what game she is playing, she instantly regrets ever touching the pen. In her society, people are given the option to win one million dollars if they choose to play “hide and seek.”

Most people have the common sense in knowing the one million is not worth the risk for this game of hide and seek is nothing like the children’s game you play with your friends, it’s deadly. There is one seeker, like any regular game of hide and seek, and they have to find everyone with a time limit. If the seeker finds someone, that person dies, and if the seeker does not find everyone before the time limit goes out, they die. It is a game of staying hidden or being good at observing.

Kaylah was a reasonable child, she wasn’t gonna choose to play the game. But her mother was sick and the million dollars would be a enough to pay for the care her mother needs. It was worth the risk, or at least, that’s what Kaylah thought at the time. But now Kaylah was beginning to realize that perhaps she was wrong, that this might not at all be worth the risks.

Kaylah look at the bracelet the workers gave everyone before they went in the arena. If the bracelet turned green, your a hider, if it turned red, your a seeker. Kaylah’s bracelet was green, she was a hider. The doors opened slowly, revealing the hiding place to be a school.

The announcer began to count down and Kaylah’s heart dropped. It’s alright, she told herself, you got this! People started racing towards their hiding spots. Kaylah took a deep breathe before she entered the school. This is a game of life or death. She only had one chance at this. She has to win.
