POEM STARTER
Write an elegy about the death of something other than a person.
An elegy is a sad poem, traditionally expressing sorrow for someone who has passed away.
The Crops Will Grow
The checkered shirt didn’t flutter
His lips did softly mutter
“The river be up today”
The farmhands all look up
“Again?” They each say
The clouds rumbled above
Each farmer around,
They swore on all they love,
This weather a pox, a plague,
A demon, to be slayed,
The crops will grow!
A lie each farmer promises
To their family, dependants,
The crops will grow!
