Mysteries We Find
A crunch of fallen leaves would usually break one out of a trance. Any sudden noise, a rock getting dislodged, sticks snapping. But this man was lost. Lost in a world far away from his home reality. I could tell by the look on his face and the story in his eyes. I’d help him find a map back home.
I approached the man carefully with practiced steps. Sliding up next to him, I stared at the landscape with him.
It was magical. With pale colors that somehow seemed to carry a dark weight. Leaves blew past us in bursts, somehow they seemed blue. Stone graves were spread hastily, only one or two were actually noticeable as what they were. I wondered if the man was visiting someone he lost.
Fog covered everything 30ft of me in every direction, but it was nice. The air was crisp and a perfect balance between freezing and warm. Somehow the light, illuminating from lamps and inside a chapel, seemed to hug me. What a strange place.
I looked out once more and exhaled as I dug around in my head for how to start a conversation. Carefully I opened my mouth, letting in a breath of the breeze that almost made my teeth shiver, well if they could of course. Did it get colder?
“What are you doing here?” I asked the man, dressed in all black, with a soft yet confident tone.
The man blinked and paused before his face turned towards me in an exceptionally slow manner. Shock was evident on his face. He was gaping like a fish fresh out of water. Funny.
His gravely voice was a surprise with how gentle his face looked, “you can see me?”
What did he mean?
I asked him this question
“You don’t seem dead, how’d you get here?” Was his only reply.
Dead? Why would I be dead?
How did I get here? Why didn’t I question that earlier?
The man took a step back, “did he send you for me? No, he’s supposed to wait!”
“He? W-who?” I asked him, my voice shaking as questions wracked my brain. I myself took a step back
I was about to open my mouth once more when I felt the ground slip from my fear and watched as light blinded my eyes.
I was falling, again.
Oh, I remember now. Funny, how could I forget.
