WRITING OBSTACLE
Inspired by Samantha Roberts
Write a descriptive scene about a character feeling the sunlight on their face for the first time in a very long while.
Try to use as many senses as you can to capture this moment.
Awake
Of course, this seemed insignificant to those who had seen the sun every day for several years, or even since birth. The day. The light.
For them, it was just another day of good weather, a day at work, a day like any other.
But I hadn't seen it for so long. Just thinking about it gave me the shivers.
What did he look like? Had he changed since my accident? Had it got bigger, smaller? Had he become square? Maybe, after all... More dangerous, brighter?
As all these questions crossed my mind, I realised that I wouldn't have any answers unless I pointed my nose outside myself.
I was pale and thin. I'd lost almost all my muscles, gained ten years of age and wrinkles on my body.
But in my mind, I'd stayed the same. Frozen in time, as if no time had passed since the accident. And yet...
The nurse wheeled me through the long white corridors of the hospital to the lift. It felt like I was taking forever. I'd become impatient. Impatient to be alive again. To feel that warm fuzz on my skin again... the ray that gently caresses your cheek.
- Sir?
Surprised, I cleared my throat quickly and realised I was there.
- Erm... Yes ?
- Here, sunglasses. Your eyes are no longer used to the light.
