POEM STARTER
Write a Petrarchan Sonnet on the theme of Autumn.
A Petrarchan Sonnet has 14 lines; the first 8 must have a rhyme scheme ABBAABBA, the last 6 can have variable rhymes, but are normally split into 2 sets of 3 lines.
Autumn, Again
Every step is more numb than the last
The softening of promises too old
I walk away and let them go cold
Never kept in tact
The year falls away and comes back
Like the leaves change to colors too bold
Before revealing they never had that strong a hold
Your words fall away fast
And I can only hope to fall away last
I can only hope to never fall forever
I can only hope that I never land
I can only hope we stay silently tethered
I can only hope to see you again
Next season’s last month, for you to be my friend
