VISUAL PROMPT

Prompt submitted by Tenshi

Write a poem about what streetlights make you think of.

Artificial Stars

Perhaps it’s the false concept of ‘romance’ that brings us back to the basics of tall city lights and smaller ones—decorated throughout a boring street that suddenly becomes an aesthetic aphrodisiac;

Perhaps it’s the coffee shop where two lovers intertwine their lips for the first time ; or the ice cream shop that hired a young man that makes everyone wait too long in line.

Or the family Italian restaurant on the corner that’s been open since the 50s and host everyone’s notorious first date that never becomes their last.

Or the friends that are secretly doomed to fall in love but still won’t hold hands because they fear they can’t take back words they never said as they walk down a busy plaza.

All while being under artificial stars.
