Left Behind
The man I loved was about to walk away from me forever with another woman. I had never loved anyone more and I needed to tell him how I felt before we left me behind for a false future.
I ran in the pouring rain after him hopeing that he would listen to me and would feel the same way, enough to not leave with her.
“Wait! Please don’t go. Not with her. You don’t belong with her. You’re too good for her. She doesn’t love you. She’s just using you. I love you though. I swear if you stay here with me I will prove that to you. I will show you everyday how much I love you and care for you. I will wake up every morning with breakfast. I will plan us the biggest, fanciest wedding anyone has seen. I will stand by you through thick and think. I will never stop loving you till the day I die. So, please don’t leave with her. Please just stay.”
I started at him, my tears masked by the rain. But he just looked at me with clueless eyes that held no emotion. I waited impatiently for his response, bouncing from one foot to the other in the cold.
“I don’t feel it. This feeling you’re feeling. I don’t have that for you. I’m sorry, but I’m not going to waist your time or mine trying to find a love for you that I don’t think will ever exist.”
He turned around and walked away. All I could was stand there, frozen by the rain, cold, and hurt. I couldn’t breathe. It was like he had stolen every last drop of oxygen from my lungs and crushed it underneath his feet as he walked away.
I dropped down to my knees, watching him walk away with her. It was like the world slowed around me and all I could feel was a deep pain and sense of loss in my chest. Nothing mattered anymore.
I stayed there for a very long time, in the rain and cold, until I found myself feeling numb. Then I walked back to my home, alone.
