Sister, You Could Be Me, I Could Be You
Oh sister, They laugh at the question,
They laugh when others ask “who’s your favorite”
“Oh we don’t have one” they promise,
Yet my spine hardens, straightens, as they glance at me, my smile widens, needles holding my face in place,
poking and prodding, always watching,
I glance at you, you caught their gaze towards me
you smile too, your smile is sharper,
your not use to it, the plastic,
before this nobody watched you, there was no reason to pin your face, To fake a smile
Sister, please believe me,
I know you suffer, you wish you were me,
I understand, I really do,
Sometimes I wish I was you,
Maybe we could be each other,
Or we could leave,
Go into the forest
By the time they find us
We’ll be new,
I won’t be their perfect doll,
You will no longer be a stain,
We could run to the city, sister
We could be hidden in the sea of people,
We could change our names,
we could make our own
And you could be known,
Oh, how great that would be,
To disappear,
To be gone,
To be unknown yet always know
Oh, if only, sister
