In a short scene, how can your protagonist say “I won’t forget you” without literally saying the words “I won’t forget you”?

“I always known you where strong, yet I always will protect you. Your attitude towards things make me rethink previous thoughts, a better perspective, deep down I always knew you were capable, even more than me, way more and yet I’ll stand before you in any bad moment, every negative Situation, 24/7. But now that you must leave, I will have nothing important to do, or anyone to go to when I am of need of reassurance. So till death do us part, nothing will stop me from doing my best to give you the best care, this is only a goodbye, I guess, I will leave with a…see you later, Alligator!”

This is a nice little snippet that makes me curious about the context behind this dialogue. Your creativity in not saying “I’ll never forget you” is hilarious, simple, and deep when I think more on it. In general, passages like these might be easier and more engaging to read if you break up some of the dialogue with some lines of action that tells us more about who the character is and their situation. For example, you could add:

“[…] a better perspective” I grab her hands and just hold them, I could feel her shaking and I had to hold back a few tears. “Deep down, I always knew you were capable […]”

This is a good way to add just a little more to a small idea and can even have your character SHOW “I’ll never forget you” without saying it!
