STORY STARTER

In a world where the ocean is considered a terrifying, prohibited place, describe your character’s first experience of going in the sea.

Why do they have to, and how do they feel about it?

The Ocean

The ocean was a scary place. Scary and dangerous. At least, thats what they all said. I didn’t believe them though. I was standing on the beach, feeling the wind wip my hair, listening to the waves wash up close to my feet. I stepped closer to the water, feeling the freezing liquid wrap around my feet. For a moment, it stung and I winced. After I got used to it, the stung went away. I stepped in deeper, to my knees. The pain was slightly worse then before, making me wince more. Despite the pain, I was more then happy to be here, at the water. I had always loved this place. My dad did too. My mom on the other hand, hated it, despised it. She almost drowned when she was younger so there was no mystery why I wasn’t allowed. I was alone though and I didn’t plan on drowning. I stepped in deeper. Now the water was up to my waist. Even though the water was freezing, a soothing warmth spread through me as each wave hit me.
