WRITING OBSTACLE
Inspired by Cavavaff
Write a description of a character who was raised in a city and loves busy city life.
How does this come through in their personality traits?
Staying Just Cause
You could tell I’m just one of the million reasons for the pollution problem in the city as I casually blow out the white smoke from my vape. Its strawberry flavored of course and the smell makes sure you know how artificial it is.
No matter how many people warn me of lung cancer the mometary feeling of comfort the nicotine provides is enough to ignore it.
The traffic signs signals green and a whole crowd of people busy to their work speed walks their way through with me right smack dab in it. Good thing I was part of the track team in highschool or else my legs would have given up before I had even thought to.
Not that I ever would.
Despite all its flaws and the times I almost died getting mugged or cars not giving a flying fuck about pedestrians or even eye contact with the biggest ‘rat’ if you could call that mutant in my life, the city and I go together.
Its where I belong.
In the crowded trains packed with people, a lot needing a shower or introduced to some deodorant. In the busy life of corporate where overtime is expected and maybe rewarded. In the casual coffee shops offering the same thing everywhere else.
I’m not saying you can’t find these things in any other city. Hell you could even go to any random city and find all of these.
But you can’t find a homeless guy named Helio who has somehow made friends with the mutants and has said that they mean no harm. You can’t find fellow co-workers like Jahyra and Fritz who will suffer together with you in the mountains of work left to do with a smile on their faces and ready to drink gallons of coffee attitude. You can’t find a barista like Kennedy whom you will go to a coffee shop that’s farther away for just to order one drink and attempt to flirt.
You can replace the city but you can’t replace the people.
So I’ll stay here, thank you very much.
