As the pair crossed the roaring river, they noticed a figure waiting for them on the other side.
The Haunted River
Carefully leaping from stone to stone keeping balance as the water rushed at our sides, our map lost, no food or water thanks to Nathan and his stupidity. Leave it to him thinking he could try and tame a grizzly bear by waving a stick in its face, the bear chased us far from our campsite leaving us to walk back out of the forest. “Come on don’t give me that Vic! I told you I’m working on becoming a natural animal whisperer!” Nathan whined tugging on my backpack from behind.
A loud groan escaped my lips as I turned to face him my flashlight illuminating his face and the rest of the dense and dark forest, not having any sort of map is really frustrating, nothing to eat or drink I was going to blow if he kept talking. “Shut that crap up Nathan your twenty two for gods sake you should be mature enough to understand some things you should and shouldn’t do.” I snapped steadying my balance as I turned to look at him from the stone
Nathan wasn’t even looking directly at me he was looking behind me which only served to make me more angry as I clicked the flashlight on and off to grab his attention, though it didn’t work I snapped in his face and that’s when he looked back at me. “Did you hear what I said? Nathan!” I growled.
“Vic look! Look behind you!” Nathan whisper yelled. A look of irritation crossed my face as I stood with my front side facing him, I crossed my arms holding the flashlight at a certain angle. “No I’m not falling for your tricks.” The flowing water rushed beneath us small droplets fell just above my boots, sudden the forest around us become eerily quiet which was uncomfortable.
Nathan was also quiet which was surprising I didn’t want to give in to his jokes but I sighed harshly but before I managed to speak he trudged through the water and walked ahead of me, annoyed I turned around to see where he was going— “Nathan don’t walk away from me!” I muttered more to myself than to him. I turned around to see where he trudged off to and that’s when my flashlight went out, I grunted in surprise shaking it and banged it against my hand which usually worked every time.
“What the? Nathan where did you go?” I asked and finally my flashlight was working and I turned around to see a figure standing on the other side of the river but Nathan was nowhere to be seen it was like he’d vanished without a trace, my eyes widened as I stared directly into the ghostly figures white eyes a thick texture splashed against my legs. Slowly I tore my gaze away from the creature and pointed my flashlight down to see Nathan faced down in the river with blood turning the clear water blood red.
“Nathan..” I gasped sharply my hands began to shake more than I’d like them to I seen organs and felt like gagging I looked at up to find the figure only to see it was gone and out of sight a shiver ran down my body and I turned to run to secure ground but that’s when the figure appeared in my face and everything went black.
