WRITING OBSTACLE
Inspired by Samantha Roberts
Write a descriptive scene about a character feeling the sunlight on their face for the first time in a very long while.
Try to use as many senses as you can to capture this moment.
The Privilege of Sunlight
Okay so this is based off of my life back when I first fell ill. Everything in the story is true lmao
When I was 11 I had fallen ill. I was passing out all the time, there were times where I physically couldn’t move my legs. No-one knew what was wrong with me.
The only time I ever went out was to go hospital. I would go school every couple of weeks at the start of the school year but that quickly came to an end too once I gotten worse.
My whole life was put on hold.
I never went outside unless I went to the hospital ,like I said, — not even to go to the garden. The only people I saw was my family and sometimes my other family like cousins but that wasn’t very often.
I wasn’t socialising properly.
I would go months without leaving the house. My parents were too scared to let me out. Too scared I would crash to the ground before they would be able to catch me. It’s not like I would even be able to stand up properly anyway. I was too weak to even stand up.
One day, my parents had gotten two garden benches.
The day they put them out was the day I went out just for the sake of it.
Summer was coming.
You could feel it on your face.
I could feel it on my face.
I felt the sun for the first time in months.
I wanted to cry.
When I was a kid I would go out of the garden whenever I wanted and now it feels like a privilege to do so.
But I enjoyed the privilege.
I felt the warmth of the sun on my face.
It was a sensation I forgot felt like.
A sensation like no other
A sensation I once took for granted.
I breathed in the fresh air.
I felt the sun.
