For Hire

Jimmy sat frozen in his seat staring at the man in front of him.

“Let’s skip the pleasantries, shall we? You and I both know we’re not here for small talk.”

“I … um.”

“That’s enough from you, I’m speaking now. We’re going to do this properly understood? I want it done by the end of the night or your neck is on the line have you got that?”

Jimmy shifted nervously.

The man’s hands slammed down before him. “Are we going to have a problem?”

“I … um, I was hired to fix one of the toilets in the gents.”

The man stared at Jimmy for a long moment studying him.

“You’re not my hit for hire?”

“No… but I won’t say anything I swear.”

The man nods.

“Sorry about the misunderstanding, the gents is through this door on the left.”

Jimmy nodded a thanks and hurried out of his chair and out the door.

“Strange,” the man pondered. “He didn’t seem to have any tools with him.”

Just as he sat himself back in his seat a silent bullet flew right between his eyes.

Jimmy slipped the gun back in his jacket pocket and headed to the gents, not to fix the toilet, but to use it. Jimmy was a hit for hire, just not the one the man had asked for, he was the hire the person he wanted offed’s hire. Perhaps Jimmy might have been interested in working for the man if he wasn’t offering peanuts for a night of honest work.
