WRITING OBSTACLE
Think about a book or film which you do not like. Now imagine the opposite opinion, and write about it from the perspective of someone who loves it.
Trying to deliberately switch your perspective is great practice for writing characters and stories which aren't about people like you.
Horror
There is nothing more satisfying than the sudden silence when a character is staring into darkness, looking for signs of an activity with only their flashlight to hold. The tension that builds as the camera quickly cuts to each corner that they turn, the sound of loud footsteps and shortness of breath. It is when they finally stop for a moment, thinking they’re safe . But this is when the music stops, silence cloaks them and for a moment all seems peaceful.
And then an unfamiliar figure appears in front! Jumping in from the side with a loud screech, enough to make any jump in their seat! Hiding their face in a friends arm at the unexpected scare. They know they should have expected this. The signs were clear from the moment the music faded away.
They will always love horror films. Always.
