POEM STARTER
Awakening
Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.
My Wings
Everything starts somewhere
The bloom of a flower has a start
Even a breath of fresh air
Even those who’re born smart
Maybe my start happened already
When I first opened my eyes
Or when my heart first went steady
Maybe my first lies
I know something is waking
I believe I’m growing wings
Wings that’ll take me away
I’ll finally be clipped of my strings
I won’t be known as a stray
No more
I’ll fly high
My wings will flap
I’ll grow another eye
And see every snap
My wings will grow
Feathers will swing
I’ll start to glow
I am awakening
I am beginning to live
I will stop aching
I’ll begin to thrive
I will use my wings
