POEM STARTER

The Simple Life
Leopards never change their spots,
And emus don’t walk back.
Human genitals in inkblots,
We take a different tact.
We’re fickle, indecisive,
“Sophisticated” creatures.
We’re typically divisive,
Snap judgements when we meet ya.
Pleasant when it’s to your face,
Loyal to a certain price.
Memories we can’t erase,
We won’t be caught out twice.
Sometimes I wish I were a cat,
Just prowling on my own.
Or like a dog upon a mat,
Just gnawing on a bone.
No intrusive thoughts to hear,
A simpler way of life.
Only stress of primal fear,
Not job or kids or wife.
Sometimes I look at fellow man,
And think they live like this.
A gift that they can’t understand,
Because ignorance is bliss.
