Leaving

Write about a character leaving something, or someone, they love.

Smoke and Mirrors

I wouldn’t dare turn around now. Recalling the drama of it all.

Even my tears have conspired together not to fall.

My eyes feel heavy, like the weight of an eight ball, messages mixed and magic amiss.

Everything unclear, but I didn’t need a crystal sphere to predict this plot twist.

My chest holds space for every word unspoken, like trash that needs to be discarded but I can’t find a place to throw it.

Knowing the difference between right and wrong, I refuse to litter.

Rummaging for sweet memories, I remained bitter from the disappointment of finding neither gold nor glitter.

They say the right relationship will be a mirror that shows you who you really are.

I saw my reflection in the window of your fast car, and you sped off without even glancing in the rear view. You left nothing but smoke, and I reached for the compact in my purse to get a glance, of who I am without you.
